but I know a little bit
about how the law works

because the law
is just bunch of words

and if you read the law words
you can learn a thing or two
about how the law works

Except for
just one unfortunate incident
in the great State of Connecticut
(don’t ask it’s complicated)

my personal non-attorney layman’s
experience with
how the law works

is limited to
the great State of Texas

and

in the great State of Texas
whether you’re
only down and out

or completely down and out

if you call 911
and inform the 911 operator

that you need help
because you are about to
kill yourself
(suicidal or using
“too much drugs”)
or
kill someone else

(in law words
that’s a
“danger to yourself”
or a
“danger to others”)

the law requires
the 911 operator

to dispatch the police
who are required by law
to check out your story

If you keep insisting that
you are about to
kill yourself or someone else
unless you get some help

the law requires the police
to transport you
to the nearest

psychiatric treatment facility
for a psychiatric evaluation

and a warm bed
medical care
three meals a day
recreation time
nice caring people
clean clothes
vaccinations
medications
etc etc etc

If you insist
that your teeth hurt
and that’s what’s
driving you crazy

the ever-so-kind people
at the psychiatric place
that the police took you to

will find you a dentist

That’s what I did
twice

Until two psychiatrists
certify to a judge
that they have stabilized you

you are there
involuntarily detained
(usually for a week or two)
in the nicest possible place

all at the expense or our
good honest taxpaying citizens

Aw gee shucks!

Such a great deal!

indeed!

Mr and Mrs Taxpayer

And now
for the good part

After you arrive at
the psychiatric place
where the police
took you to

insist that they give you
a nice social worker
to work with

Inform your social worker
that you will refuse to leave
the psychiatric place
where the police
took you to

until the social worker
finds you a nice warm
place to go

(such as a
taxpayer-funded residential
drug and alcohol
treatment facility)

after they have completed
getting you all fixed up

and your judge
judges you
all ready to go
back into society

And that’s how

(at least in
the great State of Texas)

whether you are
only down and out
or
completely down and out

you can get yourself
into a situation

where you are
no longer
down and out

Be sure to
inform the 911 operator to
inform the police to
hurry up
and
bring you

two Big Macs fries and a large Coke
on their way over
to check you out

because you are starving
and afraid that you
might just die
from starvation

before you ever get a chance to

kill yourself
or
kill someone else

If all else fails
get a bus ticket to
Abilene Texas

and have
