dumb addicts
either
got caught

went to jail

they were
too dumb to
cover up
how crazy they are

a mental institution
with

they just died
from an OD

You gotta be
really smart
(and lucky)
not to OD
these days

You have to be
clever to
commit a felony
every day

not get caught

You gotta be
smart

to figure out

how to get money
when you don’t work

You gotta be

remember
what you said

so you don’t
get caught lying

In all my years
as an addict
I never once
met
a dumb one

except for
the eight times
I was in jail
on drug/alcohol charges

or

the two times
I was
in a mental institution

or

that time
I spent
a week
on a ventilator

in the ICU
’cause I OD’d

If I’m so smart

how did I get
my ass
locked up
so many times?

Smart addicts
go crazy too
and

really smart addicts
are

some of the
craziest
dumb-ass
motherfuckers
in the universe

When you’re a
bat-shit crazy addict

and don’t know
your ass from
a hole in the ground

you’re a
crazy ass
idiot addict
no matter
how smart you are

Everyone knows
addicts are crazy

Like bread and butter

addiction and insanity

are like
two peas in a pod

Fixing addiction is
a pain in the ass

because
addiction is
a three-fold problem

Mental illness is
only one
of the three
problems

Addicts also suffer from
a physical (biological) illness
and
a spiritual illness

Being an addict is
like having asthma

Asthma is an
incurable biological illness

When you
treat asthma

you treat the
biological illness

for the rest of your life

There is no cure for
